Depending on your skin type it's best to use a suitable shaving cream.
Lavender is good for oily skins, sandalwood for dry skins and chamomile for sensitive skins.
I also like mixing some aloe vera and tea tree oil.
They are very good for your skin!
And it's cheap too!
I currently use a Merkur long handle DE razor (bought from an eshop), Gillette Platinum blades DE (from local Hondos Glyfada, Greece) and Proraso shaving cream (from eshop but most probably easily found almost everywhere).
I use a bit more shaving cream than needed (I like the extra lather), and I always use a good silvertip badger hair.
Small smooth moves, going with the grain and then Proraso after-shave.
